Description

The Backcountry Access 35 cm saw not only cuts both snow and ice, but it can also cut wood. It is the ideal length for isolating snow columns for stability tests. The blade comes equipped with a protective sheath to prevent it from ripping or scratching up your gear. Markings every 5 cm on the blade allow for a precise cut. Designed with North America’s most experienced avalanche educators, the saw is a high functioning snow safety tool. The 35 cm saw is a BCA tool that is necessary to possess for pit digging and is required in most avalanche classes.

The snow saw snaps into the upper shaft of our BCA Scepter adjustable ski poles. The snow saw will also fit on other touring ski poles, since the mount on the saw has two different diameters.

I work as a ski guide, avalanche educator, and ski patroller for much of the winter. This snow saw is always with me. It’s lightweight with a great solid cover. Some other saw models have floppy covers that come off in your pack. Then the saw shreds your pack. The CM marks make executing my favorite snow tests easy to measure. The handle attaches to my ski poles in a super secure manor. This makes it super easy for me to execute large column tests like the ECT and PST. Some of the other saws on the market secure to a ski pole with ski straps. This just does not work. These saws rotates or spin when trying to cut the column. OR the saw just comes off entirely in the back of the column. The BCA locking mechanism is solid. Overall a super simple, solid design that just works!

I rarely leave home without this saw. Whether I am digging pits at work or going out on my free time on the sled this thing is a must. Great for pits, laser etched measurements, sturdy handle and can be attached to my pole for ECT’s (I really dig that if in certain scenarios). This blade is also crazy sharp so if I happen to go bushwhacking with my machine I can cut my self out of bad situation. I feel like a lot of the previous reviews were talking about the older version of this saw which were not nearly as good as this one.
