ISSW-Europe wraps up, « marking » takes a hit in beacon tests

Posted on octobre 2nd, 2009 by edge | 0 responses

At the ICAR and ISSW conferences in Switzerland last week, « marking » functions for multiple burials were highlighted as too complicated and time consuming for recreationists using avalanche transceivers (beacons).

El Nino-What does this mean?

At BCA our mission is to help save lives with the products we make. At the same time, we depend on several factors in order to remain a viable company and the most important factor is sales. Without sales of our products we can’t innovate and develop. Predicting sales is a challenge because we’re faced with an economy that doesn’t look so hot (if you watch the news) but the good news to counter this is that the backcountry market is growing. So what do we look at next? Weather predictions! The biggest issue facing the ski industry (ski areas, skiers, retail shops and ski companies) is snowfall. It’s no… Read more

Bent Gate Kick Off Party

Posted on octobre 1st, 2009 by andy | 1 response

Golden, CO- Last night mountaineering/ski retailer Bent Gate hosted their annual season kick off party and fundraiser for the CAIC, Friends of Berthoud Pass and Backcountry Snowsports Alliance. There were a couple hundred stoked skiers that showed up to welcome in another tasty winter season. The timing was perfect as another cold front rolled into Colorado, dropping more snow in the high country.

The beer was flowing, the fashion show highlighted some the Front Range’s best talent and gear and all in all everyone seemed to have a great time. Below are some pictures highlighting the evening.  Join BCA next Friday, Oct.9,  as the party moves to Boulder and Neptune… Read more

BCA Storms Europe, showcases Tracker2

Posted on septembre 29th, 2009 by edge | 2 responses

« Stur wie ein Esel. » This was the motto last week at our big two-day Tracker event on the Breithorn Glacier near Zermatt, Switzerland. Roughly translated from German, this means something like, « Follow me like a donkey. » This is what we told the armies of mountain rescue teams from Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Norway and scores of other countries at the International Commission on Alpine Rescue (ICAR) field day at the base of the Little Matterhorn. They weren’t offended, but actually got the message loud and clear that Tracker2 is even easier to use than the Tracker DTS–and infinitely easier to use than other technologies out on the glacier that day.

MSP’s World Premier of « In Deep »

Posted on septembre 21st, 2009 by andy | 0 responses

Fall in Colorado is RAD.  Not just because skiing is only a month away, but because it’s movie premier season. Premiers in late September often provide the first winter stoke of the year and kick off days of anticipation until that first day on the hill. The best of the best always seem to roll through Boulder, showing highlights from last season that make sorority girls scream and frat dudes blackout.  If you’ve never had the opportunity to check out a world premier, let’s just say everyone likes to cut loose and throw back a few in honor of Ullr and a bountiful season ahead.

This year was no different… Read more
