Fresh tracks, Fresh ideas.
That’s what Backcountry Access (BCA) is all about.

Backcountry Access is owned and run by dedicated backcountry skiers and snowboarders that live for fresh lines—and are stoked to be part of the outdoor industry.

Our passions are ski touring and innovation. We constantly strive to break new ground with our products and our ideas: we invented the first digital transceiver, the first integrated shovel and probe, and the first freezeproof hydration system. We also invented the concept of “knowledge leadership.” We believe knowledge and education are even more important than our products. That’s why you’ll see so much about this on our website.

New this year, check out our new online store and our updated research page.

Tracker2 beacons and Float 30 airbags are now shipping! Please contact your local retailer to see if they have any in stock. Pro and consumer sales for these products are not currently available directly from BCA. Thank you for your patience and support.

Avalanche Awareness & Education

Our goal is to save lives, not just sell products. We invest more in education than we do on advertising. Here are a few of our programs:

  • Cutting edge research on avalanche statistics and rescue techniques, including our groundbreaking research on “strategic shoveling.”
  • Over 60 BCA Beacon Training Parks worldwide for essential transceiver search practice.
  • An easy-to-read Avalanche Awareness Guide in all of our catalogs.
  • Our DVD, “Take Charge: Leading a Companion Rescue” teaches you how to safely and efficiently organize a rescue.
  • BCA displays at retail stores illustrate how to most effectively use a beacon, probe and shovel.
  • Avalanche education tours: our technical representatives are professionals who provide avalanche awareness education and programs in their regions.
  • We support a variety of avalanche education programs, particularly for youth. For more details, visit our education page: www.backcountryaccess.com/education.
